Michael Jackson’s new album Xscape has topped the digital charts in more than 50 countries after its release earlier this week, Digital Spy reports. The King of Pop’s set of eight unheard tracks has been given a contemporary reworking by acclaimed producers such as Timbaland. The first single from the album, “Love Never Felt So Good”, debuted at the iHeart Radio Music Awards at the beginning of the month. Justin Timberlake’s vocals feature on the ‘retro’ style song, which was first penned by Jackson and Paul Anka in 1983. Other singers heard on the album include Mary J Blige and D’Angelo. “Any artist, I don’t care what genre you do, you should always aspire to be like Michael Jackson,” said Timberlake in 2012. Another song on Xscape, “Do You Know Where Your Children Are?” is believed to be about Jackson’s child sex abuse allegations.
It's lyrics appear to be about a 12-year-old girl who ends up as a prostitute after fleeing abuse from her stepfather. Jackson sings the phrase “Save me from this living hell” multiple times, leading to fan speculation that the “Bad” star wrote it about the battle to clear his name. Jackson’s first album after his 2009 death, Michael, proved a disappointment, with some critics claiming certain tracks were performed by an impersonator. Epic Records have released Xscape after CEO LA Reid was granted exclusive access to Jackson’s four-decade archive of material. The title of the album continues Jackson's tradition of using single words that are also the names of his songs ( Thriller, Bad,Dangerous). So far, Xscape, has received favourable reviews. -Jess Denham Independent Chris Brown may have been feeling lke a "caged animal" in prison, but he's not letting the experience break his spirit entirely. Reportedly, he's still crooning behind bars, passing the time writing songs with fellow R&B singer and inmate James DeBarge.
According to TMZ, Breezy and James are being held in adjacent cells in a special section of the Los Angeles County jail reserved for high profile prisoners. Although they can't see each other, the two spend their days collaborating vocally and have successfully penned at least three songs together. What's more, the Grammy winner and the DeBarge brother have inspired more inmates on their cell block to join in on the harmonies. Now that's music therapy. Breezy was given 131 days after admitting that he violated probation the night of an alleged assault on a person attempting to photobomb a fan photo in Washington, D.C. James, who was part of the all siblings singing group DeBarge ("Rhythm of the Night," "All This Love," "Love Me in a Special Way") was arrested in April on drug possession charges. He had been locked up before, on drug and weapons charges, and apparently spent time then in a cell near another famed inmate, Conrad Murray (which upset James because he considered Michael Jackson a brother; he was briefly married to Janet Jackson in the '80s). No word yet on whether or not the songs will be recorded once the two are released. -BET-Staff Bet.com Posted by JUZZROCTHEMIC What is this generation making babies too? I really want to know, because it seems as if R&B is far from what it was when I started having sex. I understand music changes and goes through cycles, and that’s what I love most about music; it evolves quicker than the human mind which is pretty rad, but when I listen to the current R&B selection or slow songs I’m bored out of my mind. Are babies really being conceived to The Weekend and Jhene’ Aiko? For the sake of the child I hope not, because that sounds pretty boring and depressing. I will admit that I like some artist of the same sound such as Frank Ocean, It’s great listening music, and sometimes deep as far as the messages, but as far as mood music, it sucks.
The artist even sound disinterested and fatigued while singing, which does absolutely nothing for my libido, and ignites no heat in my panties at all, all it makes me want to do is light candles, and clean my apartment. That’s the mood it generally puts me in. There’s no bumping and grinding in the lyrics, and definitely none in the voice of the singers, there’s just a monotone sometimes whining kind of notes, that I really don’t see making my sex playlist. There are artist that are trying to keen the Rhythm and the Blues, two of the sole components that make up R&B in music, like Miguel, and Luke James, but its very far in between. I want some soul, some blues, and I want to hear emotion in these performers voices. Three reasons I think R&B has become a snooze fest. Point one: Many of today’s R&B singers rely on machines and technology to produce “rhythm and blues.” Seriously, no drum machine or electronic keyboard can match a group of dedicated musicians who have perfected the craft of “one band, one sound.” Our music today lacks this component, so we are left wondering why the songs don’t move us like they used to back-in-the-day. Artists should bring back true musicians who play their own instruments to recreate the magical sounds of traditional R&B music. Point two: Many of today’s R&B artists don’t sing with passion and feeling, also known as singing with soul. Where is the love in our music today? Song lyrics lack the imagination of the R&B jams of the past. Teddy Pendergrass could explain when, where, why and how he loves his lady all in the same song. On top of that, there was enough sex appeal and passion in his music to make you say: yes, I can definitely relate and remember when… Point three: Many of today’s R&B performers can’t carry a tune from one side of a recording studio to the other. While there are some very nice voices out there today, line them up against the legends of R&B music and today’s artists don’t stand a chance. Would you take Beyonce’s voice over Patti LaBelle’s? How about Usher on the same stage as Luther Vandross? Play a Rihanna tune then follow it up with a Phyllis Hyman classic. The vast differences in the voice qualities of R&B artists now and then are very easy to hear and distinguish. I’m guessing the real question should be, is where is the love, the trust and the seduction in music? We need that back in order to make that baby making music we are used too.
